Chalet (1800 sq. ft.) in Grayling, MI
2.4 miles from Lake Margrethe
Located on the Upper Manistee River seven miles west of Grayling, Michigan and just south of M-72, the house sits on a bluff about fifty feet back from and overlooking the river. There is a stairway down to a four foot by eight foot dock which gives access to the water for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, wading, tubing, fly fishing or wildlife viewing. The river is approximately three to four feet deep just in front of the dock making it perfect for an afternoon dip in the heat of the summer sun. To the right of the dock are wooden steps going into the river making easy access for youngsters and/or fly fisherman to reach shallower waters. At daybreak and again in the late afternoon it is not unusual to find a Great Blue Heron quietly stalking it's prey in the shallows just across the river. At the top of the bluff is a hammock which overlooks the river. At the end of the street there is a private undeveloped park. Guests may use to access the river and fly fish around the peninsula we are adjacent to. The Upper Manistee River has been classified as a Natural River. This means that future development will have to meet certain standards - that will help to maintain the quality of the river and the river environment. The Natural Rivers Act along with the Upper Manistee River Association will be working together to make sure that there is a healthy trout population. The house sits on a stretch of the Manistee River that is well known for it's Brook and Brown trout population. It is, also, a well kept secret that a 20' Brown lives under the dock here! This section of the river is for fly fishing only and is open all year round. The Catch and Take season runs from the last Saturday in April thru September 30. The rest of the year is Catch and Release only. Den: The den has a full size pull-out sofa bed, a matching chair and footstool. There is, also, a small Secretary and chair for you to write letters and or postcards to your friends and relatives. In one corner is a TV with an attached VCR/DVD Player. The 48" flat screen TV is satellite and therefore has many stations to choose from. There is a bookshelf with Cd's, DVDs, VCR Tapes and assorted reading material. And there is a Video Rental Store in Grayling (20 minutes away) if you are looking for a special movie. In the kitchen pantry you will find playing cards and a few board games. Laundry: The house has a small laundry room with sink, washer and dryer for your needs. Bring your own high efficiency Laundry Soap, Softener, and Bleach. Garage: The house has a one-car attached garage with an automatic opener. Although there is only a single car width driveway, it is long enough to accommodate a truck/car and trailer. We park our Jeep Liberty and 19' I/O Bowrider in the driveway with ease. Also, there is room to park extra cars on the street during the summer months. Pets are welcome with written permission and a small fee/pet. Leash rules apply out of courtesy to our neighbors while on property. The property is closed from October 31st to April 30th due to the intense winters.

Lodge (2000 sq. ft.) in Grayling, MI
3.9 miles from Lake Margrethe
If you desire to spend some time in nature in Northern Michigan while having very comfortable accommodations, a lot of privacy, and the ability to do some kayaking, canoeing, and/or hiking onsite, you have found the spot! This is truly an amazing vacation rental property as it is an incredible combination of being in nature while still staying in very beautiful, modern, and comfortable accommodations. This vacation rental home is situated on 13.5 private acres of jack pine forest in northern Michigan. The property extends to Goose Creek, which is a beautiful, serene, and slow-moving creek that eventually flows into the Manistee River. The creek is great for kayaking and canoeing and the slow speed of the water allows guests to easily paddle either upstream or downstream on the creek. Don't have a canoe or kayak? Two kayaks and a canoe are included with the rental! The kayaks and canoe are located at a private deck on Goose Creek that is on the property and the kayaks and canoe can be easily moved in and out of the water using the deck. There are also three-quarters of a mile of private trails on the property for hiking, ATV riding, and/or snowmobiling! In addition to the private trails on the property, the vacation lodge is located close to a wide variety of public hiking, ATV, and snowmobiling trails in the area. In terms of the vacation lodge itself, it features three bedrooms (two on the second floor and one on the first floor), two full bathrooms (one on each floor), two living rooms (one on each floor), a gorgeous kitchen, a dining area, and a covered garage. The lodge also has a second story deck that faces Goose Creek and a first floor patio below the deck, also facing Goose Creek. There are even two gas grills: one on the second floor deck and one on the first floor patio! The lodge also includes two outdoor fire hearths for having outdoor fires with s'mores! (Note that jack pines are particularly susceptible to forest fires, so outdoor fires are only permitted in the outdoor fire hearths that are provided.) Inside the vacation lodge, the lodge has modern amenities to provide wonderful comfort year-round while relaxing in the beautiful nature of northern Michigan. The lodge has a gas forced-air furnace for staying warm in the winter as well as air-conditioning for staying cool in the summer. The vacation home has a television with satellite television service and a DVD player on the second floor and a Smart TV on the first floor. WiFi is also included. The kitchen is very modern and includes an electric range, refrigerator, microwave, and a dishwasher. There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The vacation home is beautifully decorated throughout with a lovely nature theme. This vacation home is also perfectly situated to allow day trips to a number of other popular northern Michigan destinations: ? * Traverse City: Despite being quite deeply out in the woods, the lodge is only about 45 miles (or a 1-hour drive) from downtown Traverse City! Traverse City is the entertainment, shopping, dining, and cultural capital of northern Michigan. There is a vast array of shopping, dining, and entertainment options in Traverse City including museums, movie theaters, shopping malls, live theaters, and enough restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops to probably match whatever you are looking for! * Mackinac Island: Mackinac Island is Michigan's treasured gem in the Mackinac Straits where the Upper and Lower Peninsulas come together. No automobiles are allowed on the island and it's necessary to take a ferry there The island is a beautiful and famous blend of history and nature. It is about a 90-minute drive to Mackinaw City, Michigan, where ferries take you on the approx. 20-minute boat ride to Mackinac Island. Leaving early in the morning allows for a great day trip to Mackinac Island and back! * Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore: Sleeping Bear Dunes is on the opposite side of Traverse City, about a 30-minute drive from Traverse City. (Thus, it's about a 90-minute drive from the lodge to the start of the national lakeshore.) Sleeping Bear Dunes offers incredible natural beauty, majestic overlooks of Lake Michigan, miles upon miles of nature trails, pristine beaches on Lake Michigan, and great family fun going tubing, kayaking, and/or canoeing down the Platte River, which flows through the park out to Lake Michigan. It's possible to spend multiple days exploring the park or you can easily just take a day trip to the park, perhaps even adding on a driving tour along M22 around the Leelanau Peninsula going through the various cute little beach towns on Lake Michigan that are dotted around the outside of Leelanau County. The lodge is truly a wonderful vacation home for families, groups, or couples to make great memories together exploring the incredible natural beauty of northern Michigan!

Cabin (1700 sq. ft.) in Grayling, MI
7.7 miles from Lake Margrethe
Tucked into the tall pines alongside the Holy Waters. The Castaway offers an amazing location for enjoying all the Au Sable River has to offer. The cabin was purchased in 2009 for family use. We quickly realized how much we loved the location and invested in upgrading the accommodations, knowing we will have the place for many years to come. The renovations were completed in 2010 and we couldn’t be more excited about the outcome. The cabin now has two nicely sized full bathrooms and four well-furnished bedrooms in addition to expanded kitchen and mudroom areas. The setting couldn’t be more perfect. Just outside the kitchen, guests will enjoy an outdoor living area with a shaded 6 person table, comfortable couches, and a large fire pit. Perfect for cooking over the open flame, relaxing with a good book, or snuggling up to watch the star-filled night sky. The deck around the front of the home has a grill and another 4 person table with umbrella. The cabin itself sits about 200 feet back from the river. Down near the river, there is a tree swing and a grass clearing. It’s perfect for sitting in the Adirondacks while awaiting just the right moment to wet your line. Entry into the river off the property is ankle deep gravel. There are plenty of deep water pockets with the large trout of your dreams lurking nearby. There are plenty of spots for wading anglers or we would be happy to recommend local guides and fly shops. For those not familiar with the Grayling area, it offers more than just some of the greatest fly fishing. The river itself attracts tubers, kayakers, and canoeists. Our cabin is situated between Burton’s Landing and Keystone Landing. Grayling is also in the center of a region with the most incredible golf courses such as Forest Dunes, Treetops, and Boyne Mountain. Looking for a nearby small beach? Kneff Lake is a small hidden local spot for kids to play in the sand and water. Wellington Farms, a historic working farm, also makes a great visit for something out of the ordinary. The winter months attract many who loves the outdoors. Whether you are into snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, or downhill skiing, you will find a spot to keep you engaged. The cabin has a perfect sledding hill and comes equipped with a nice hot cocoa maker. Hanson Hills offers many trails for year-round adventures. Treetops offers downhill skiing and tubing (with reservations) about 30 minutes away. Boyne Mountain is about 45 minutes – 1 hour away. We especially like to cater to family gatherings, anglers, and couples. Out of respect to our neighbors we do request that there aren't any large gatherings or late nights that would disrupt their quiet river setting.

BLACK BEAR LODGE ON THE AU SABLE RIVER BLACK BEAR LODGE ON THE AU SABLE RIVER SLEEPS: 4 BEDROOMS: 1 (queen bed in master & bunk bed in hall) BATHROOMS: 1 (full bath with shower only-no tub) *RIVERFRONT (Au Sable River is difficult to access) *TV with CABLE ONLY, NO WIFI Just 100 feet off County Road 612, in Frederic Michigan (Crawford County), you'll find this small, charming, classic cabin alongside a beautiful section of the headwater on the Au Sable River. This cabin offers fishermen, hunters, hikers, golfers, ATV lovers, snowmobilers, and small families, a clean, comfortable, affordable place to stay with outdoor activities right outside your door! The view of the Au Sable from this cabin is often wide in the winter and narrow in the summer due to the leaves on the many, beautiful trees surrounding the cottage. Although the cabin rests alongside the Au Sable River, it is not easy to enter the river here. The entry to the river is in it's natural setting and not maintained as an entry point. One of the great aspects of Black Bear lodge is it's location offers privacy! You can see cars driving down County Road 612 from time to time, and there is another home visible from the cabin, yet you will still enjoy plenty of space with no neighbors right beside you. (Drivers often tend to drive a bit fast on County Road 612, so please beware!) Black Bear Lodge is also only a few minutes from Grayling or Gaylord, Michigan, so it's the perfect place to spend a week or a weekend and have plenty nearby places to explore. Black Bear Lodge offers a full kitchen where you can cook a great meal, and also a charcoal grill if you prefer to have a BBQ. The full bathroom (with shower only-no bathtub) ensures a hot shower after a day on the river or hiking in the woods. There is a queen bed in the main bedroom, built in bunks in the hall that kids adore (the 2nd sleeping area), and a futon is available in the living room for extra sleeping space.. Enjoy sitting on the patio with your cup of joe while you catch glimpses of the river down the hill, and at night, gaze upon the stars at the fire pit area, or just relax inside and catch your favorite shows on cable on the large, flat screen TV. Enjoy the river right outside your door! Walk out to the river to cast your rod, or set your canoe or kayak on the headwaters of the Au Sable (also known as the Blue Ribbon trout stream). Please be careful walking down to the river, the first part is steep. The public access to the river is across the bridge (see map) for easier and safer entry.. If you love to explore, try your luck at the 'Holy Waters' in Grayling, or at the Manistee River just 4 miles down the road from the cabin. If golf is your activity, the cabin is only minutes from the award winning golf courses in Grayling, Gaylord and Shanty Creek. In the wintertime, snowmobilers will enjoy the miles of state trails nearby. The closest trails are Trail 679 and Trail 7, located just 0.5 miles east of the cabin (See map photo). Not only are Snowmobiling/ATV Trails nearby, but also the legendary “Swamp III & Frederic Inn” is located just down the road (walking distance). If you enjoy downhill or cross country skiing, check out nearby Hanson Hills (Grayling), Treetops (Gaylord), Shanty Creek and Boyne. If the family wants to go tubing, Hanson Hills offers both day and night service. With “one of the best” state parks only 9 miles away, Hartwick Pines State Park offers scheduled events and activities year round. Enjoy the museum, gift shop, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, hunting, and fishing during the day, and return to your comfortable cabin in the woods to relax in the evening. (Note that we do limit the rental capacity to 8 adults.) It has a huge deck with a gorgeous view of the lake from the hillside on which it sits. The vacation rental includes a boat dock, two kayaks, a paddle board, a canoe, and a paddle boat - all on the property's private lakefront! Cub Lake is a "no wake lake". Pontoon boats are allowed, but other motorized boats are not. Guests are very welcome to bring their own pontoon boat and/or non-motorized watercraft and use the property's boat dock for mooring. Cub Lake is great for kayaking and canoeing and both Cub Lake and nearby Bear Lake are excellent for fishing for bass and bluegill. There is also a very nice fire ring with chairs on the private beach for having bonfires and s'mores on the beach. In the winter, Cub Hill is great for sledding with kids and adults being able to sled from the deck down to Cub Lake on the hill. Inside the cottage, the cottage is about 1800 square feet in size and the 3 bedrooms sleep 7 adults very comfortably. Two of the bedrooms have queen-size beds and the largest of the 3 bedrooms is set-up with 3 twin-size beds. The cottage does not have air-conditioning, but all 3 of the bedrooms have ceiling fans and there are other fans available in the house as well. There is also a den / reading room in the cottage that has a futon in it, which can also sleep 2 adults. The cottage has a nice cozy living room with a flat-screen television. Basic cable television is included (network channels only), but the cottage is equipped with high-speed WiFi and live streaming is available via a Roku device. There is a cute kitchen which is fully stocked with a good supply of cooking and dining utensils, which are all available for guests to use. There is a small laundry area with a top load washer and dryer near the kitchen. The cottage also has a cute dining area (next to the kitchen and living room), with a dining table and seating for 6 adults. The vacation home is beautifully designed around Cub Lake, with the living room, dining room, and two of the three bedrooms all having views of the lake. HOUSE RULES: 1) Pets: This is a pet-friendly vacation rental property and up to 2 dogs are allowed for each stay. There is a pet fee to help us cover the additional cleaning cost associated with pets. (Note that more than 2 dogs are not permitted and pets other than dogs are also not permitted.) 2) Check-in / Check-out Times: To allow us to have the home properly cleaned and prepared for incoming guests, we ask that guests check-out by 11:00 AM and that new guests arrive after 3:00 PM. Check-out prior to 11:00 AM is particularly important as our cleaning personnel normally start cleaning the house promptly at 11:00 AM upon the day of check-out. 3) Noise: For the sake of the neighbors, please keep noise to a minimum. (We have recently received complaints from neighbors regarding noise and keeping noise down is a current point of emphasis at the property.) 4) Towels / Linens: We provide bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths for all guests as well as sheets for the beds, so guests do not need to bring their own. We do not provide beach towels though, so it is suggested that guests bring their own beach towels. 5) Kitchen Supplies: We provide a good supply of cooking and dining utensils for guests to use. This includes a coffee maker, toaster, and salt and pepper. Guests are asked to wash any dishes that they use prior to their departure. 6) Garage: The garage is used for personal storage and is not available for guests to use. 7) Indoor Fireplace: The indoor wood fireplace is also not available for guests to use due to safety concerns. 8) Firewood: A fun and family-friendly fire ring with chairs is provided at the private beachfront for having bonfires and s'mores right down at the lake.
